THE FLIPPED CLASSROOM MODEL

  Hi, my pity reader:)

Today, we are going to talk about the flipped classroom. This is the technology age, so we as teachers have to use technology-based teaching models and approaches. The flipped classroom teaching model is one of them. This is a teaching model that puts students at the center and makes them take responsibility for their own learning. To be more clear, students are expected to watch and study the videos that their teachers prepare or the ones that are prepared by other creators and practice what they have learned in the classroom. It is all up to students, which is why it is student-centered learning.

This model has some advantages, such as enhancing students motivation and attention and reducing the time required to explain the topic. This model has some disadvantages as well as advantages. Whether all students have technological devices is one of them. Instructors should ensure that all students have access to technological devices.

The assignment for this topic is to create either a vocabulary or grammar teaching video for a flipped EFL classroom. Me and my partner Simge Yazıci  decided to prepare a vocabulary teaching video, and our topic was Party Time. We have chosen vocabularies that we aim to teach from the MEB English coursebook for grade 5 students. Then we decide on the tool that we will use. The tool that we have used is Powtoon, and we created a three-minute video.

While preparing this video, me and Simge had really, really hard times. It was really hard to match the voice we had recorded to the relevant photographs in the video. However, we managed to do it! We had a really satisfying conclusion in the end. You can access the video we prepared here

A CORPUS-BASED TEACHING MATERIAL

  Hi. my pity reader:)

After a long time, I am here again and happy to see you! This time, we are designing a teaching activity that is based on the corpus. While studying this assignment, I worked with my partner, SimgeA corpus is a group of texts that are gathered together. Despite being brief, the definition covers a wide range of tasks.

                                                                     taken from here.

First of all, the activity we have designed is structure-based. The ultimate aim of the activity is to make learners able to understand and learn the differences between the structures "will" and "be going to." The target audience is preparation students at intermediate level. After deciding on the topic and target audience thanks to the book that our teacher shared with us, my pair and I opened a co-working page in Canva. Then,we started to design our activity. As we prepared the activity, we focused on the students' in-depth use of learning technology, including corpus work.

After studying this material:

My students will be able to use the correct structure in the correct context.

My students will be able to distinguish the differences between "will" and "be going to."

My students will be able to learn the different usages of these two grammar structures.

While preparing this material, as a teacher candidate, I have learned that teachers should not only pay attention to which material to use but also to students' access to technology. There are some constraints, such as technology access, classroom context, level of students, background information, and so on. These obstacles play a crucial role in students' learning. That is why tachers should take these obstacles into consideration and design the activity accordingly.
